Port Royale 3 is a game about choices. The game is a simulation game that allows you to take on the role of either up higher it or a merchant during the age of sail. When you begin the game you will start as a sea captain looking for work in Spain. You are offered a choice in terms of the types of quests that you would like to select. By picking trader quests you will eventually work to become a successful trader. Adventure requests on the other hand could eventually lead you into becoming a pirate.

As you start the game you are presented with a number of tutorial videos as well as submissions that can help you to learn the controls of the game. These are extremely helpful if you’ve never played a Sim like game before. Learning about all of the menus and what you are trying to actually accomplish in the game is extremely important and completing the tutorials and watching the videos is highly recommended if you are a new player.

Part of the game is building up popularity with each city. If you can build up popularity with the city as a pirate or as a merchant you will be able to trade more favorably with that city as well as hire new crewmembers from that city while you are there. You can do missions for cities or establish trading partnerships that can help you to get access to these extra features in each city. With over 60 different cities in the game is possible to spend your pirate or trading empire quite far across the world.

If you decide to opt out of swashbuckling is a pirate and prefer to simply establish a business in the game in order to earn your fortune, you’ll need to meet up with people in each city as well as learn the cities where you can sell goods at a higher price. By establishing your own import export business you can work at amassing a great amount of wealth and becoming very successful in the game.

In the process of trading and shipping your goods there is a very good chance that you will run into pirates, or be required to intercept ships in the open ocean to take their riches if you are a pirate. In this instance you will have to engage in ship to ship combat.

The ship to ship combat in this game is quite good, it requires a lot of strategy and maneuvering in order to get your ship into a place where it can actually fire but once you’re able to master the ship to ship combat element it can actually be quite a bit of fun.
